ALL COMPANY AND PRE-COMPANY CLASSES WILL BE WEARING THESE THREE PIECES IN BLACK: LEOTARD, SKIRT AND CAPRIS.
Our official uniform is located at Tutu Dancewear at 715 Mill Street in Bridgeville, PA. Visit Tutu to try on the pieces for a proper fit. Just let them know you are with Grace Christian and they will bring you the proper pieces. Aim for early August to make sure you have what you need for the start of class.
If you purchased these three pieces in August 2023 from Tutu, you do not need to repurchase them (except for the girls that wore a lilac leotard as it will now be black). If you did not purchase them last year, then you will need new pieces so that everyone is in the same fabric, length, shine, etc. We frequently use these items in our shows, so they must be these exact pieces and in good condition.
NOTE ABOUT THE SKIRT: This skirt must fall below the leotard line. If your dancer is tall, with a small waist, you will need to buy the longer skirt and have the waist line altered.
NOTE ABOUT THE CAPRIS:These should be tight around the knee.
Child sizes: ETA Kids Pants SL152 Adult sizes: ETA Pants SL151
NOTE ABOUT THE LEOTARD:We struggle to find leotards that have a high enough neckline. For those dancers that show cleavage when leaning forward, we are allowing – and highly recommend – this one optional piece (picture below). It can be ordered online at Dancewear Solutions. Note that it must be this exact piece as we may decide to use it in a performance. Currently the ship week for some of the sizes is November 1.
Child sizes: Maggie SL26 Adult sizes: Margaret SL25
Hair is in a ponytail or bun. All hair is secured.
Hair must be secured and off the dancer’s face and neck. Short bangs are permitted providing they don’t hang in their eyes. Use bobby pins and ponytail elastics to secure the hair without additional hair adornment. Black headbands are permitted if they stay in place.
Dance Shoes
All dancers are required to take class in a PINK ballet slipper or the older girls have the option of using a jazz shoe. They can be any brand, but make sure you are not buying a ballet-looking bedroom slipper. Either shoe should fit like a glove and not have more than 1/4 inch growth room. A child might be pointing correctly, but the teacher can’t see it if there is too much room at toes.
If wearing ballet slippers, please do not pull the elastic string out of the ballet slipper. Tighten it to fit your child’s foot and then double knot it and either snip it or tuck in the bow. If you are cutting the strings, please have your child wear the shoe for 15 minutes and make sure it isn’t tied too tightly. If your child will be participating in the Spring Show, you will be required to purchase a brand-new shoe in March.
Required Show Shoes:
Company dancers are required to purchase new dance shoes for April’s Spring Production. You will receive information on which shoe to purchase from Tutu in March. Some groups are required to have two different styles of dance shoe.
FOR CLASS: Dancers, that wear a bra in class, must wear one with straps that are hidden by the leotard or the optional top that goes over it.
FOR PERFORMING: All dancers, that need to wear a bra while performing, are required to get a flesh-toned dance bra with clear back and shoulder straps. You’ll need to find one that is supportive and covers cleavage. Tutu has a possible option in their store.
NOT ALLOWED IN THE STUDIO ROOMS:
Other than small stud earrings, please remove ALL JEWELRY. Dancers will be asked to remove any earrings that hang below their lobe.
Food, gum, candy, and any drinks other than water are not permitted in the studio rooms.
Glass water bottles are not permitted.
Cell phones are required to stay in the dance bag at all times.
